Counselling and Supervision

Perhaps you’re here because…

You may be feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed or stuck. You might be grieving, struggling in a relationship, dealing with changes in your family, work or health, or finding that your confidence has been knocked. You may spend a lot of time trying to keep other people happy, putting their needs before your own or finding it difficult to say no.

Sometimes there is no single problem you can point to. You may simply know that you don’t feel like yourself, that life has become harder to manage, or that the same difficulties keep coming up.

Talking to family or friends is not always easy. You may worry about burdening them, feel they are too close to the situation or find it difficult to explain how you really feel.

If any of this feels familiar, I may be able to help. Counselling with me gives you time to talk openly with someone outside your everyday life. My approach is warm, honest and down-to-earth, and we can begin by looking at what feels most important to you.

About me

My name is Sarah. I’m a qualified counsellor with a BA (Hons) in Counselling and a registered member of the BACP. I work within their Ethical Framework and am currently undertaking a Certificate in Clinical Supervision.

I have over 10 years’ experience as a counsellor, working across private practice, bereavement services, young adult counselling and Place2Be, where I supported primary school children.

Alongside my private practice, I am the Service Lead at a bereavement counselling charity, where I oversee the clinical and day-to-day running of the service and support counsellors working with grief and loss.

Earlier in my career, I worked in forensic mental health and supported people with profound learning disabilities. These experiences have shaped the way I work and strengthened my belief in meeting each person as they are, with patience, honesty and respect.

I care deeply about my work and value getting to know people beyond the surface. My approach is warm, relational and down-to-earth, and I recognise that no two people will need exactly the same things from counselling.

How I Work

What to Expect in Sessions

In our sessions, we can talk openly about what is happening in your life and how it is affecting you. You choose what feels important to bring, and we will work at a pace that feels manageable for you.

You don’t need to arrive with everything worked out or know exactly what you want to say. Sometimes we may talk about what is happening in your life now. At other times, we might think about earlier experiences, important relationships or difficulties that seem to keep coming up.

I’ll listen carefully and try to understand things from your point of view. I may ask questions, reflect something back or help you notice connections that can be difficult to see when you are in the middle of things. I won’t tell you what to do, push you to discuss anything before you feel ready or steer you in a direction that does not feel right for you.

A Safe and Independent Space

Being able to speak honestly with someone outside your everyday life can feel different from talking to family or friends. You don’t need to protect me from how you are feeling or worry about how what you say may affect our relationship outside counselling.

Understanding and Moving Forward

Putting experiences and feelings into words can make them feel less confusing or overwhelming. Over time, you may begin to understand how earlier experiences are affecting you now, recognise patterns in your relationships or reactions, and become clearer about what you need.

Counselling cannot remove everything difficult from your life or provide quick answers. It can, however, help you feel less alone with what you are carrying and give you a better understanding of yourself, so that you have more choice in how you respond and what you may want to change.

Experience and Areas of Work

I work with people experiencing a range of difficulties, including grief and loss, anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, life changes, family issues, and feeling stuck or overwhelmed. My work is about helping people understand themselves more deeply, explore their relationships, and find a way forward that feels right for them.

I also have experience in forensic mental health and in care work with people with profound learning disabilities. These experiences have shaped the way I work and deepened my belief in meeting people as they are, with patience, honesty and respect.

Alongside my counselling work, I offer supervision to counsellors and trainee counsellors as a trainee supervisor. I see supervision as a thoughtful, supportive place to reflect on client work, explore what may be happening in the relationship, and help counsellors feel more grounded and confident in their practice.

What I Offer

Bereavement Counselling

Grief can affect every part of your life and does not always look the way people expect. I offer counselling for recent and past bereavements, anticipated loss and relationships that may have been difficult or complicated.

Counselling for other life challenges

I work with people experiencing anxiety, low mood, relationship or family difficulties, people-pleasing, low confidence, life changes, stress, or a general feeling of being stuck or overwhelmed.

Bereavement Group Work & Reflective Support

I offer bereavement groups for charities, community organisations and support services, as well as reflective groups for staff and volunteers whose work involves grief, loss or emotionally demanding situations.

Supervision

As a trainee supervisor, I offer warm, reflective and ethical supervision for qualified counsellors and trainees. We can think carefully about client work, the therapeutic relationship, professional responsibilities and the emotional impact of the work.

Fees & practical information

• Online counselling: £60 per 50-minute session

• Face-to-face counselling: £65 per 50-minute session

• Introductory phone call: free for 20 minutes

• A limited number of reduced-fee places may be available

How much does supervision cost?

While I am completing my supervision training:

• 60-minute supervision session: £40

• 90-minute supervision session: £60

Once I am qualified:

• 60-minute supervision session: £60

• 90-minute supervision session: £90

Existing supervisees will be given at least eight weeks’ notice before the fee increases.

Do you offer an introductory call?

Yes. I offer a free 20-minute introductory phone call. This gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what has brought you to counselling, ask any initial questions and consider whether I may be the right counsellor for you.

Where do sessions take place?

I offer face-to-face counselling in Palmers Green and Friern Barnet, North London, as well as online sessions via Zoom.

Is the counselling room accessible?

My usual counselling room in Palmers Green is upstairs and unfortunately there is no lift. If stairs would be difficult for you, I also have access to a more accessible room in Friern Barnet.

Please let me know if you have any mobility, sensory, communication or other needs, or if there are reasonable adjustments that would help you access counselling more comfortably. We can discuss what may be possible before your first session.

What happens in the first session?

The first session includes an assessment and is usually a little more structured than later sessions. I’ll ask some questions about what is happening for you, your background, any support you have in place and anything important relating to your safety, wellbeing or confidentiality. It is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of how I work.

How often will we meet?

Counselling usually takes place weekly at an agreed time. We can discuss what feels appropriate for you during our introductory call or first session.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no set number of sessions that will be right for everyone. I generally recommend beginning with at least six weekly sessions, as this gives us time to get to know one another and begin exploring what has brought you to counselling.

Towards the end of those six sessions, we can review how things are going and decide whether you would like to finish, book a further block or continue on a longer-term basis. There is no obligation to continue beyond the sessions we have agreed.
